Our review

Comparative analysis · updated October 2, 2026

A credible but rougher alternative: 900 W and 40 N·m for $110 less than the Hypershell X Carbon. Range and strap comfort fall behind Hypershell, and it ships with one battery. Consider it when price is the deciding factor.

Scores by criterion

Pros

  • 900 W peak and 40 N·m of torque, a firm push uphill
  • The least expensive motor above 800 W in our comparison, $510 below the X Ultra
  • The lightest hip model in our comparison: 4.9 lb with its battery
  • Battery swaps in seconds, with no tools

Cons

  • Straps that ride up and a belt that runs warm
  • Disappointing real-world range: half the battery is used in 90 minutes at the maximum setting

Who it's for

Buyers who want the most motor for the least money and mostly use it in short sessions.

Who it's not for

Anyone who needs predictable range over a full day: the Hypershell X Carbon ships with two batteries.

Frequently asked questions

Which X1 does this review cover?

The X1 Carbon, the version our specs and score are based on.

Dnsys also sells a cheaper X1 Lite and a pricier X1 Carbon Pro ($689 and $1,289, checked Oct 1, 2026). Their specs differ, so check the spec sheet before ordering.

How does the X1 ship in the US?

Dnsys ships it from a Los Angeles warehouse, in 3 to 7 business days (checked Oct 1, 2026).

Does it weigh 3.5 lb or 4.9 lb?

Both figures circulate. 3.5 lb (1.6 kg) is the spec-sheet number, without the battery; 4.9 lb (2.2 kg) is the weight you actually wear, battery included.

Use the second one when comparing with other models, whose weights we give with the battery.
